Our campus does not offer on-campus living, and so when relocating,
finding housing can be one of the biggest obstacles to overcome. That’s why we’ve collected
some resources that you can use to see what’s available for rent here in Portland.
Do you
want to live close to the seminary?
If so, check to see where the apartment/rental
is in relation to the seminary :
5511 SE Hawthorne Blvd MAP
Portland OR 97215
Are you looking for a
good area for your kids?
This is a great website www.portlandmaps.com that tells
you about crime, schools and other information about the location of the apartment/rental you are
looking at.
Do you hope to live near and become part of a particular church community?
If you have already found a church you will fellowship at, you can always contact them for any possible
housing leads. If you want to leave this option open when you move to Portland try signing a 6 month
lease instead of a yearlong one so that you have the flexibility to move closer to your church community.
Do you want to get around without a car?
Portland has an excellent public
transportation system that allows students to access all areas of the greater Portland area. Obtain
information about our public transportation system here: www.trimet.org. A navigational note: Portland
is divided into 5 regions, N, NE, SE, SW, and NW. A street called Burnside runs East to West
and divides Portland North/ South. The Willamette River, which runs North/ South,
divides Portland into East and West sides. Streets on the east side that run North to South are
numbered and increase numerically as one moves away from Downtown. Thus, Western Seminary is South
of Burnside and 55 blocks east of downtown. This is important to keep in mind as you look for a
place to live and helps tremendously when trying to find your way around!
Use these sites to explore Portland rental opportunities:
One of the services we provide at Western Seminary is a Classifieds Binder that provides
information about job and housing opportunities. These ads are placed by local people who are interested
in providing housing or employment to students who attend Western Seminary. If you’re interested
in finding out what housing or job opportunities are currently available, feel free to contact
Helen York at hyork@westernseminary.edu or
by phone at 877.517.1800.
