1.) Discover their full potential in Christ?
2.) Get unstuck in life and move forward into abundance?
3.) Stop being a slave to life’s demands and find life balance?
4.) Move from surviving to thriving?
5.) Move from a stagnant faith to a vibrant faith?

If your answer is “yes,” Western Seminary can equip you with Christian Coaching skills. Oftentimes, what a person needs to navigate through life transitions or to overcome obstacles for growth is coaching. Coaching is an empowering tool anyone can benefit from using to help people achieve their fullest potential. A coach listens and guides a person in analyzing his or her own situation, formulating an appropriate action plan, and taking action steps to deal with that situation. Coaching is another useful skill for any pastor’s ministry arsenal for guiding and equipping those in their care. It is especially useful for leaders who help their people discern God’s direction for their lives and/or help lay ministers set clear goals and action plans for ministry. It can also be used in one’s profession or personal life.

Western Seminary offers superb Christ-centered coaching courses. Our foundational coaching course, MCS 500 “Coaching for Change,” will provide you with an overview of the theory and skills of coaching. You will find it a highly interactive and experiential learning experience, where you can practice these newly learned skills in class right away. Time will be spent developing basic skills utilized in a coaching relationship. Focus will be given to coaching people through differing types of change including pro-active change, transitions, and transformations. The course will integrate biblical and theological rationale and reflection in understanding coaching in relationship to disciple making.

This class is taught in two parts. Part 1 begins September 11/12 and Part 2 will be held October 2/3. Both parts are required for this 2-unit class. This class is a prerequisite for any of our other coaching electives. We will also offer MCS 500S again, beginning on January 22/23 and concluding on February 19/20. The cost is $395 per credit unit and $300 per audit/enrichment unit. All other coaching electives thereafter are one-unit classes.
