Josh Mathews Named Vice President of Academic Affairs
Western Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of faculty member Josh Mathews, PhD, to Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty. Matthews fills the role vacated by President Chuck Conniry.
"Josh has proven himself to be a strong leader with a deep faith in Jesus Christ and a high degree of spiritual and emotional maturity," said Conniry. "He embodies Western Seminary’s rich theological heritage and understands the importance of maintaining continuity with our gospel-centered commitments while seeking more effective ways to educate men and women for Kingdom work."
Mathews has been teaching biblical and theological studies at Western since 2013 and holds a PhD in Biblical Studies from Gateway Seminary. Most recently, he has served as the chair for Western's Center for Biblical and Theological Studies. He earned a BA in Bible/Theology and New Testament Greek from Multnomah University, and holds dual master's degrees in both Biblical Exegesis and Historic and Systematic Theology from Wheaton College Graduate School. Mathews is also a member of the preaching team at Grace Community Church in Gresham, Ore.
"Having Josh lead Western's academic enterprise is a win for the faculty, the students, and the rest of our community," said Conniry.
